Here are the 4 types of headaches and how to treat them naturally

Headaches are pain that affects the cranial tissue. Headaches of their medical name, these minor ills, remain however very troublesome, even incapacitating.

types of headaches

However, not all headaches have the same intensity, frequency or impact on daily life. While some of them rarely occur and disappear quickly, others can be very persistent.

Indeed, we can distinguish between several types of headaches that can be differentiated according to their location, intensity, duration and manner of occurrence.

The two most common types of headaches are tension headache and migraine, but these can also be caused by other health problems such as hypertension, meningitis, sinusitis or stroke.

Here are the 4 main types of headaches:

  1. Headache due to sinusitis:

Sinusitis is an inflammation that affects the mucous membranes covering the inside of the sinuses. This problem is often caused by a viral infection. It usually occurs after a cold and has many symptoms, but the most common is the headache. Indeed, people with sinusitis can experience terrible headaches, which worsen when they lean forward.  These are accompanied by a pressure on the whole face and a fever.

Natural treatments:

  • Eat plenty of citrus rich in vitamin C and antioxidants to boost the immune system and help fight infections.
  • Alternate between hot compress (3 minutes) and cold compress (1 minutes) 3 times in a row.
  • Prepare an infusion made from eucalyptus leaves and peppermint, to be taken twice a day.
  1. Tension headache:

Tension headache is the most common type of headache. It is manifested by local pains in the cranial area, affecting both sides of the head. People suffering from this pain describe the pain as continuous and diffuse. This can be accompanied by difficulty concentrating and contraction of the muscles of the neck.

The tension headache is often due to lack of sleep, stress and anxiety or hunger. It can be either frequent or chronic.

Natural treatments:

  • Take an infusion of  ginger  that has an effect similar to that of aspirin
  • Gently massage your temples with a few drops of peppermint oil, diluted in a vegetable oil, to take advantage of its antispasmodic and stimulating properties.
  1. Headache :

The  migraine  is another form of headache. This one often settles gradually and can last from a few hours to days, if the subject does not take a treatment.

Migraine-related pain usually affects only one side of the head, can be either intense or moderate, but is usually pulsating (hammer blow in the head) and increases with physical exertion, noise or in the light.

Migraine attacks can also be accompanied by nausea or vomiting.

Natural treatments:

  • Take a cup of coffee, at the beginning of the migraine attack. This drink helps to tone the dilated blood vessels following migraine
  • Use warm or cold compresses on the head
  • Massage or squeeze the sore side at the temple
  1. The cluster headache of the face:

The cluster headache (AVF) is characterized by   fairly frequent headaches , short but very intense. The pains are manifested especially at night and mainly affect men. They are usually felt around the eye and can spread all over the face. These headaches last from 15 minutes to 3 hours and can occur several times a day.

Treatments:

The treatment of AVF is based on taking strong drugs such as triptans, but it is also possible to relieve pain through the inspiration of pure oxygen for a few minutes (oxygen therapy).
