Garlic is the most effective remedy against pneumonia, cough, colds and ear infections

Garlic is the essential ingredient of cooking to flavor most dishes but not only. It is also considered a medicine since the beginning of time. It can prevent, relieve and even cure many infections.

Like  onions , shallots, chives and leeks, garlic is used to bring health benefits. By the way, raw or cooked, it has a multitude of benefits for the body. It has been used  throughout the ages for medical purposes  by acting as an antibiotic for certain infections. Moreover, Hippocrates, the father of medicine, had understood and prescribed garlic for the prevention and treatment of several diseases.

What makes garlic a food?

Some garlic compounds help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and infectious diseases, and reduce  blood cholesterol levels  with the saponins it contains. It has also been proven in a study published in the  Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy  and reported by  Washington State University , that diallyl sulphide, a compound of garlic, was extremely effective and exceeded the effect of two antibiotics known to destroy Campylobacter bacteria, a cause of intestinal infections.

In addition, garlic  is rich in antioxidants, such as flavonoids and tocopherols that protect the body from free radicals. It would fight against certain infections such as bronchitis, cough, pneumonia or colds and earaches.

Garlic against colds

It has always been mentioned that garlic is useful against colds. And this is probably due to its antibacterial and antiviral activities. A  study has shown that  garlic  can prevent the onset of colds, although other studies are needed to corroborate it. Thus, during this study, one group took garlic daily, while another group took a placebo tablet. It was concluded from this research that people who took garlic for 3 months had fewer colds than the placebo group.

Garlic against cough

Garlic has always been considered a natural antibiotic and for good reason, its allicin content, which is a powerful compound  fighting against bacteria and viruses . Thus, by using garlic daily, it can act as a means of prevention to strengthen the immune system and guard against  infections , particularly related to coughs.

Garlic against pneumonia

Garlic is also used for antibacterial purposes as highlighted in a  study . According to the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute, garlic by its crude aqueous extract, can fight against certain bacteria that cause pneumonia such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, a pathogenic microorganism.

Garlic against earache

Another characteristic of garlic is that it helps reduce earache. A  study  has shown that ear drops, one of which is garlic extract, have been shown to be effective in reducing the pain of middle ear infection.
