Moreover, Hippocrates, the father of medicine, had understood and prescribed garlic for the prevention and treatment of several diseases.
What makes garlic a food?
Some garlic compounds help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and infectious diseases, and reduce blood cholesterol levels with the saponins it contains. It has also been proven in a study published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and reported by Washington State University , that diallyl sulphide, a compound of garlic, was extremely effective and exceeded the effect of two antibiotics known to destroy Campylobacter bacteria, a cause of intestinal infections.

It was concluded from this research that people who took garlic for 3 months had fewer colds than the placebo group.
