Do not discard sprouted garlic

Wanting to add garlic to a delicious dish, you’ve probably found that the garlic you’ve kept in a corner of your kitchen has sprouted. But like most people you probably thought that these garlic cloves were good to throw away. It is a mistake ! This germinated garlic can have great virtues for health.

Can you use sprouted garlic?

The answer is yes. Given the health benefits of garlic, when the latter germinates, it becomes even more beneficial to the human body. So it is recommended to keep it and use it in your  dishes  without any worries.

Sprouted garlic contains many compounds with medicinal properties such as allyl disulfide, alliine and allicin. Indeed, sprouted garlic is more beneficial than normal garlic.

Health benefits of sprouted garlic

Large amount of antioxidants

Sprouted garlic contains the same antioxidants as normal garlic but has a higher content in sprouted garlic.

According to a study by the Korean Institute for Technology Planning and Evaluation published in the  ACS Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry , sprouted garlic is an ideal food choice if you want to increase your consumption of antioxidants.

Prevention against cancer

The most important benefit of garlic is its ability to inhibit the generation of free radicals responsible for cancer.

According to Dr. Jongsang Kim of Kyungpook National University in South Korea, plants are very susceptible to attack by  bacteria , viruses and insects during germination. Their ability to produce different chemicals is called phytoalexin, which allows plants to defend themselves. Most of these phytoalexins are toxic to microorganisms and insects, but beneficial to human health.

Phytoalexin levels increase during germination and, once ingested, help the body eliminate free radicals, bacteria and  viruses that  can be harmful to health.

Food poisoning

Due to the fact that garlic has the ability to help treat many health problems, it is considered a superfood. It is ideal for preventing fungal diseases and many viral diseases because of its antioxidant properties.

Sprouted garlic can be used for food poisoning because it is able to alleviate symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal cramps. The antioxidants in garlic are a staggering solution for various viral and parasitic diseases.

Premature aging

The antioxidants found in garlic fight against free radicals and prevent the appearance of wrinkles and signs of aging. Sprouted garlic is amazing to keep a body still young.

How to sprout garlic?

It is very simple. All you have to do is leave the garlic in the open air, for example in the kitchen window, to help germinate. You can also put it in a glass of water without removing the skin. You will see the primary germs within 5 days.

It is obvious that the green sprouts of garlic you were afraid of are actually very beneficial to your health. Now you will think twice before throwing them in the trash, keeping the garlic sprouted can save your life.

Is garlic the only food to be consumed in germination?

Garlic is not the only product you could keep in case of germination. Carrots, onions, beans, chickpeas and wheat are also considered healthy foods to eat, as long as they do not become soft or chewy, according to Christopher Ochner, assistant professor at the  Icahn School of Medicine.  from Mount Sinai.

However, for the potato, you have to be careful. According to Dr. Ochner, potatoes are generally healthy as long as they are not soft or green. Germinating potatoes should not be eaten as they are considered toxic.
